North Carolina’s administrator is the Unclaimed Property Division of the North Carolina Department of State Treasurer, public-facing as NCCash. It holds dormant intangible property — including unclaimed surplus reported from foreclosure and tax-sale distributions — for owners and heirs, and runs an NCCash Match program that automatically pays verified claims of $5,000 or less without an owner filing.

How surplus escheats here
Unclaimed foreclosure/tax-sale surplus in north-carolina not claimed from the disbursing party is reported and remitted to the Department of State Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Division under the custodial model in escheat-and-unclaimed-property. Search by name at nccash.gov, open a matched claim, and submit proof of identity and ownership. Normal processing is roughly 90 days. NCCash Match may pay qualifying small claims automatically after a verification letter. Heirs claim through estate documentation. No fee.
