Agency

Oregon’s unclaimed-property program is administered by the Oregon State Treasury, Unclaimed Property Program. Oversight transferred from the Department of State Lands to the State Treasury effective July 1, 2021 under Senate Bill 454. The program operates under Oregon Revised Statutes Chapter 98 (Oregon’s unclaimed-property act). Official claim portal

The portal lets owners search for free, include an SSN when creating a claim, and upload supporting documents electronically. There is no deadline to file a claim and no fee. (Source: https://unclaimed.oregon.gov/ , retrieved 2026-06-02.)

How surplus escheats here

See escheat-and-unclaimed-property for the general custodial-taking framework and oregon for the state’s tax-sale surplus mechanics.

Dormant intangible property reported to the Oregon State Treasury is held in custody for the owner; title does not pass to the state, so the owner’s claim is not time-barred (consistent with the RUUPA custodial model described in escheat-and-unclaimed-property). Whether a specific tax-foreclosure surplus reaches the Treasury fund — versus being retained at the county level — is governed by the foreclosure statute on the oregon page (Module 3) and is needs_verification for any individual parcel.

Claiming

  1. Search by name at https://unclaimed.oregon.gov/.
  2. Create a claim online; include SSN to speed matching and upload supporting documents.
  3. Provide proof of identity and proof of ownership/address linking the claimant to the reported owner; heirs provide estate documentation, businesses provide entity records.
  4. Questions: Oregon State Treasury Unclaimed Property, (503) 986-5200, claims@ost.state.or.us. (Source: https://unclaimed.oregon.gov/ , retrieved 2026-06-02.)

▸ For Former Owners. If your funds are with the Oregon State Treasury, the claim is free and has no deadline — search https://unclaimed.oregon.gov/ first. Confirm on the oregon page whether your tax-foreclosure surplus actually escheated to the Treasury or was held/forfeited upstream at the county.

▸ For Investors / Operators. Oregon dormant intangibles held by the Treasury are custodial and reclaimable in perpetuity; that downstream timing does not cloud acquired title or revive redemption — see escheat-and-unclaimed-property. Confirm the surplus destination and any county-level deadline on the oregon page before modeling a surplus strategy.
